5 Odin Mistakes You’ll Regret
When I began playing Odin: Valhalla Rising, I learned many lessons the hard way. After four years of continuous gameplay, I can now identify the most common mistakes that can significantly hinder early progress. Whether you're a new player or someone returning after a break, these five key insights will help you avoid inefficiencies and build a stronger foundation.
1. Always Make Alts of the Same Class
You get five character slots, and if your main is, say, a Archemage, the smartest thing you can do is fill the other four with the same class. Why? Because skill and weapon progression benefits stack across characters. Shared progress makes gearing and leveling infinitely easier, and will massively accelerate your main character growth.
Once a character reaches level 60, the game rewards you with a free Epic Avatar, and at level 70, a free Epic Mount. Because Odin is still in its early stage, it's efficient to level sub-characters up to 60, claim the reward, then delete and restart. This lets you stock Epic avatars and fuse them toward a Legendary.
Note: The process of building, leveling, and managing these sub-characters for maximum fuse benefit is critical — and I’ll walk you through it step-by-step in an upcoming post.
2. Always Fuse Avatars and Mounts on Your Main Character
One of the most costly mistakes you can make is fusing avatars or mounts on your sub-characters. In the Feats > General section, there are milestone rewards: fuse 15 Epic avatars or mounts, and you earn a free Legendary avatar/mount.
If you're spreading fusions across multiple characters, those progress counters won’t accumulate properly, and you’ll lose the chance to claim those high-value rewards. I’ve accidentally clicked ‘fuse’ on a sub before — and it stung.
Efficiency tip: Keep all fusion activity centralized on your main!
3. Stop Auto-Dismantling Your Loot
One of the biggest early-game regrets I had? Dismantling low-tier items without checking if they belonged to the item collection. Even common-grade gear can contribute to your combat power once registered. Every little bonus adds up.
Golden rule: Check item collections before breaking down anything, no matter how useless it looks.
4. Never Skip Mimir’s Water
Leveling up becomes much slower after the early zones, particularly around level 60. However, you’ll need at least 10 or more Mimisbrunnr Waters every day to keep progressing efficiently.
These waters are available in the Premium Shop under General Offers > Consumables and are quite affordable. You can buy them using gold, from Tier 1 to Tier 5, at the following rates:
- Tier 1: 40k gold
- Tier 2: 100k gold
- Tier 3: 160k gold
- Tier 4: 220k gold
- Tier 5: 260k gold
In contrast, purchasing 5 waters from the merchant costs 300k gold each.
Think of Mimisbrunnr Water as XP in a bottle — and you’ll need a lot of it in the near future, so stock up!
5. Don’t Ignore Sub-Quests on Early Maps
Speed-running the main quest may feel satisfying, but Odin rewards patience and thoroughness. Early sub-quests are packed with exp you won't want to miss. Skipping them means coming back later — a waste of time.
Save yourself the backtracking: Do both main and sub-quests simultaneously as you progress.
Final Thoughts
When you’re just starting out, these lessons may not be obvious, but that’s part of what makes Odin so exciting! It doesn’t hold your hand, and the sense of discovery is half the fun. I hope these five tips help you avoid some of the challenges I faced and make your journey a little smoother.
Thank you for the great tips, happy to follow and hope to see more insights about the game.
